Full-time Development Officer

at Dallas International University in Texas

Job purpose
The Development Officer at Dallas International University (DIU) is responsible for cultivating and stewarding donor relationships with the goal of maintaining and increasing funding toward the work of the University. Overall, the position exists to communicate the vision of Dallas International University for the purpose of fostering donor connections to and partnerships with the University and its cause.

Duties and responsibilities
1. Overseeing social media directed toward donor development as well as the monthly Connection Newsletter, which includes:
• Reviewing and approving scheduled content that covers the spectrum of the DIU identity and the work of DIU, with all departments represented and with Development as an emphasis in the telling of stories.
• Sharing alumni stories via the Connection Newsletter.
2. Seeking out new funding sources and prospective donors through research, word-of-mouth, and attending events when possible.
3. Communicating about, cultivating, and stewarding relationships with donors and with the Wycliffe Foundation for bequests, legacy giving, and related gifts.
4. Connecting regularly with donors to build personal relationships and share opportunities for deeper partnership as they arise, which includes:
• Maintaining donor communications through:
a. Sending of prompt thank you notes to donors on Network for Good
b. Mailing letters to new donors (phone calls when possible)
c. Sharing impact stories through mail and email
d. Periodically thanking donors individually (just because)
e. Gathering alumni stories to share
f. Writing ‘donorversary’ cards monthly
g. Praying for and with donors; checking in for updates periodically
5. Regularly reviewing data to discover donors with capacity to give more and communicating current needs with them in the context of relationship.
6. Communicating with the Board liaison for Development to foster Board involvement
7. Creating standard donor communication pieces, such as the year-end giving letter, Giving Tuesday communications, North Texas Giving Day communications, and other appeals or storytelling pieces in conjunction with the rest of the Development Team.
8. Maintaining updated records on connections with donors

Communication
Regular interaction with VP of Development. Frequent interaction with Development staff, faculty, staff, students, and alumni.
Qualifications
1. Bachelor’s degree in related field.
2. At least two years of experience in fundraising and/or non-profit communications (preferred).
3. Ability to communicate clearly (both written and oral) and with excitement about the work of DIU with the DIU community and the general public. Build rapport and cultivate relationships with our institution.
4. Organizational skills and ability to take initiative are a must.
5. Proficiency in computer and database systems including, but not limited to MS Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
6. Professional appearance and demeanor.

Physical Requirements
Good physical health is required. The position requires only occasional, moderate physical effort. This person should live within commuting distance to the university.
