Full-time Asphalt Industry - Operations Manager/Estimator

at Jobisite in New South Wales

Fishers Asphalt is locally owned and located in Kempsey on the Mid North Coast of NSW.

A key role reporting to the GM to assist asphalt operations is available for immediate start to the successful applicant. You will be responsible for maximising profit and financial performance through the effective and efficient management of the estimating process and contributing to the continuous improvement of our project management processes.

Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

Prepare quotes, offers, tenders and expressions of interest, review and approve all operational invoices and ensure they are submitted for processing;
Work closely with GM and management team to set and/or implement policies, procedures, and systems and to follow through with implementation;
Ability to build consensus and relationships among managers, partners and employees;
Monitor employee activities and provide guidance where needed;
Encourage a positive work environment and culture for all employees and ensure all team members meet the company policies, procedures and guidelines including relevant legislative and statutory requirements;
Manage contract risk through efficient and effective pre-tender reviews, contract reviews, project post audits and the application of appropriate training;
Develop and maintain long term, mutually beneficial relationships with key stakeholders through appropriate propositions and ethical sales methods;
Value add wherever possible to meet and/or exceed client expectations, improve project management processes, profitability and market share;
Manage product/service mix, pricing and margins according to agreed aims;
Manage and monitor budget process, report on budget performance, analyse business performance through use of relevant business reports and reporting systems.
What we are looking for:

Proven ability and experience in estimating/contract negotiation/contract administration/project management within the asphalt, construction or civil construction industry;
Tertiary qualification in engineering or other relevant field viewed favourably however not mandatory;
5+ years experience with knowledge of asphalt manufacturing and asphalt contracting;
An excellent planning ability, you will be able to understand what is required to be done, set the direction and communicate the plan day to day with the Project Manager/Crew Supervisor;
You will have a commitment to safety above any other business requirement, understand risk and will not hesitate to stop unsafe practices or situations by exhibiting genuine leadership and on-site vision;
Knowledge and experience within the asphalt industry;
Well-developed written and verbal communication skills;
Sound presentation skills;
Sound computer skills; and
An attitude and commitment that will fit a team environment.
