Full-time Machinist/Propeller Technician

at Sound Propeller Services Inc in Washington

Various shifts available:
Day shift 6am-2:30pm, Swing shift 2:30pm-11:00pm, Graveyard shift 11:00pm – 6:00 am

Individuals having “hands on” experience with tools in shop environments are encouraged to apply. Experience is not required. Training is provided to advance an Apprentice to Journeyman level

Machinist Job description

Set up and operate machines to fabricate metallic product (mainly shafting and propellers) by performing the following duties
• Select, align and secure holding fixture, cutting tools, attachments accessories, and materials on machines such as lathes, key-seaters, and grinders
• Calculate and set controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut
• Start and continuously observe machine operation to detect malfunctions or out of tolerance machining, and adjust machine controls as required
• Verify conformance of finished product to specifications
• Confer with supervisor or others to resolve machining problems


Entry level Propeller Technician
Use various grinding, finishing and welding equipment to grind and finish the surfaces of metal products (mainly propellers) by performing the following duties
• Use various grinding tools for metal surface finishing
• Must be able to operate overhead cranes
• Perform Non-destructive testing
• Ability to use the following grinding equipment: electric and pneumatic hand grinders

Both Positions
• work off-site at a dry dock.
• Ability to use PPE (respirator, safety glasses etc.) as required
• Perform basic math and measurement functions
• Ability to follow direction and learn proper profiling and dimension
• Operate welding/cutting equipment as needed
• Able to lift 75lbs
