Department Summary
The Finance and Administration Shared Services Department (FASS) is located within the Finance and Administration portfolio. Finance and Administration is a vibrant and varied portfolio serving all aspects of campus life. Finance and Administration employees perform a wide range of functions including offering essential support to the University's many departments, providing key resources to employees, and keeping campus safe. FASS provides department-level administrative services to groups across the University in three areas: Business Operations, Human Resources, and Information Technology.

The mission of the Finance and Administration Shared Service team is to provide professional and timely service, offering our expertise in a wide variety of functions. FASS is committed to providing superior customer service and creating partnerships with clients to ensure their needs are fulfilled to the highest standard.

The FASS unit provides administrative services for 20+ departments across several portfolios including:

• Campus Planning and Facilities Management
• Safety and Risk Services
• Campus Services
• University Human Resources
• Information Services
• Purchasing and Contracting Services
• The Office of General Counsel
• The Office of the President

The units supported by FASS constitute multiple large business enterprises consisting of more than 900 employees and a total operating budget in excess of $80 million.

The mission of the FASS Business Operations group is to provide comprehensive business services to FASS-supported units. Business Operations works collaboratively with clients to provide support in Strategic Finance, Accounting, Grants, Contracts, and Purchasing. The BOA serves an integral role in providing effective financial support to FASS-supported units.

Position Summary
The Business Operations Accountant (BOA) is responsible for the timely and accurate management of accounting transactions for assigned units. The BOA works in university- and customer-specific systems to ensure the accurate posting of financial transactions to appropriate funds and accounts. The BOA is responsible for managing the accurate entry of invoices, deposits, and other accounting entries. The BOA identifies errors and out-of-balance conditions, tracks errors through accounting systems, and makes appropriate reversals or correcting entries. This position is responsible for analyzing and posting the accurate recognition of revenue and expenses. The BOA leads monthly, quarterly, and annual closing processes for assigned units.

Minimum Requirements
• Bachelor's degree with CPA or PA certificate; OR
• Bachelor's degree with 30 quarter (20 semester) hours of college-level Accounting, OR
• 30 quarter (20 semester) hours of Accounting courses and three years of Accounting experience.
• Transcripts must be submitted for all required and/or related courses. All courses must be from accredited colleges, universities, or private vocational schools.

Accounting experience must include at least 3 of the following:
• Preparing transactions to be recorded in records of original entry;
• Preparing journal entries, posting from journals to general ledger, or preparing original general ledger entries;
• Summarizing data from a ledger to a trial balance;
• Closing accounts at the end of an accounting period;
• Applying PC spreadsheet, database, and word processing software;
• Processing data using a computer.

Preferred Qualifications
• Strong Excel skills with demonstrated use in daily work
• Experience with Cognos or other similar business intelligence software
• Experience with Banner or other ERP system
• One or more years of related experience (full-time, part-time, or unpaid)
