The Opportunity
The Car Deck Managers responsibility is to ensure that car deck operations are completed safely, on time and in accordance with all company work related documentation such as SOPs, job descriptions and HSE regulations.
Key Responsibilities
• Supervising, overseeing, and participating when needed in operations taking place on the car deck, such as vessel mooring, ship to ship cargo movement, forklift operations, etc.
• Keeping the Operations Manager updated regularly on the progress and submit suggestions how to improve the procedures or safety of any operation
• Coordinating and supervising car deck team members (Car Deck Operators and CTV Desk Agents)
• Assessing and minimizing risk to all individuals working on the car deck
• Conducting regular safety inspections, and ensuring the safety and security of the car deck and all individuals working within
• Keeping all car deck documentation up to date and completing reports
• Liaising and coordinating with the client, assisting with cargo movements
• Making sure that personnel transfers are conducted in a smooth and safe manner
• Coordinate garbage collection, proper storage, and correct disposal procedure to supply vessel
• Coordinating work on the car deck between internal departments (storekeepers, laundry, housekeeping), ship crew and the client
• Assisting support vessels upon request with material, personnel, or storage space if possible
• Making sure car deck is clean, arranged and in a presentable condition
• Ensuring all the equipment used on the car deck is safe and certified and being used only by authorized personnel
• Participate in assigned meetings to share and receive car deck related information
• Ensuring all work permits are completed prior to any tasks that require one
• Making sure Bridgemans pest control measures are being implemented on the car deck
• Ordering material for car deck operation in advance to avoid any interference to the daily operations.
Qualifications
• 1-2 years of previous experience as a Car Deck Manager or in a similar role within the maritime industry, preferably onboard a cruise ship or other passenger vessel
• STCW Reg. II/4 rating forming part of a navigational watch or STCW Reg. II/5 rating as able seafarer deck Valid Seafarers Medical certificate
• STCW Reg. VI/1 safety familiarization, basic training and instruction for all seafarers
• STCW Reg. VI/2, competence in survival craft and rescue boats other than fast rescue boats
• STCW Reg. VI/6 security-related training and instruction for all seafarers
• STCW Crowd management training
• Forklift driver training
• Understanding of safety regulations and procedures in a maritime or offshore environment.
• Fluent communication in English
• Good communication and teamwork abilities.
• Ability to clear a drug and alcohol test prior to hiring and potential random tests throughout employment with prior notice
Working Conditions
• Constant standing and walking throughout shift
• Frequent lifting and carrying up to 50lbs
• Frequent kneeling, pushing, pulling and lifting
• Occasional ascending or descending ladders, stairs and ramps
