Center Description
The UC Berkeley Labor Center conducts research and education on issues related to labor and employment. The Labor Center's curricula and leadership training serve to educate a diverse new generation of labor leaders. The Labor Center carries out policy relevant research on topics such as job quality and workforce development, and works with unions, policymakers and other
stakeholders to develop innovative policy perspectives and programs. The Labor Center provides an important source of research and information on unions and the changing workforce for students, scholars, policymakers and the public. This position offers an exciting opportunity to be part of a high-impact, high-visibility organization and to work with a nationally-recognized team of researchers, policy analysts, and educators.

Position Description and Responsibilities
The Labor Center seeks applications for the Coordinator of Student Programs position. Under the supervision of the Center's Director of Student Engagement, the appointee will advance the Labor Center's student practice opportunities including research, internships, and service-learning experiences. They will achieve this goal by strengthening and expanding the Center's collaborative partnerships with external labor and community stakeholders, placement of students, and support in mentorship of undergraduate and graduate students. The appointee will be responsible for supporting the service-learning components of UC Berkeley's labor studies classes, including research and other labor community-engaged experiences. The appointee will be responsible for recruiting and matching diverse students with external partners, and training, assessing, and mentoring students to ensure both rigorous learning experiences and value-addition to community partners. The appointee will also be responsible for recruiting and helping external community partners develop projects that are feasible and appropriate for students, and for assessing and supporting site supervisors for partnership success.

The appointee's main responsibilities are to:

• Strengthen the Labor Center's current programs for students, service learning and research opportunities in Labor Studies classes and independent student research projects.
• Design and lead the center's student programs such as Solidarity Spring and Labor Movement Apprenticeship Program (L-MAP), in collaboration with labor partners and the UC Labor Centers.
• Design and implement labor education workshops and trainings for students.
• Carry out campus outreach to recruit students, in collaboration with the Labor Center's advisory board, other faculty, university bodies, and student organizations.
• Assess the needs and capacities of the labor community's stakeholders in order to develop new and strengthen existing partnerships, help partners identify research and other needs, match students to host sites, and provide mentorship to both students, and support external community supervisors for successful partnerships.
• Identify and develop evaluation tools for student internship and service learning programs through student/participant evaluations and assessment of the level of student interest.
• Track student participation, performance, and post-training career trajectories. Develop and maintain an alumni relations program.
• Participate in long-range strategic planning for the Labor Center's student programs.

The Labor Center is unable to offer visa sponsorship for this position.

Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent international degree

Additional qualifications (required at time of start)
Three (3) years of professional work experience with a labor-oriented organization
